DELAYS along Manchester Road and Bury New Road have been compounded as traffic lights at Hollins Brow junction are stuck on red.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have advised that an engineer has been called to fix the issue and will attend the incident as soon as possible.
TfGM have asked motorists to approach the area with caution and have advised people to use an alternative route.
Motorists have reported delays to their journey of up to an hour and have reported that surrounding roads are also congested.
A spokesperson for TfGM said, “Delays along Manchester Road southbound and and Bury New Road northbound as multi-way signals are stuck on red.
“An engineer has been raised and will attend as soon as possible “Please approach with caution or use an alternative route.”

There have been continued delays at Hollins Brow this week after emergency work took place to repair a water leak.
The work has caused congestion on the A56 Blackford Bridge with Go North West warning of delays of between 15 and 44 minutes for those embarking of bus journeys between Manchester and Bury.
TfGM have advised using the M66/M62 or Radcliffe as alternative routes
