BURY FC Women have made history after being crowned league champions at a title-deciding match.

The team beat Clitheroe Wolves 2-0 on Sunday, consolidating themselves as victors of the Championship of the Lancashire FA Women's County League.

The win took place in front of a record-breaking crowd of 655 at Gigg Lane, with the two goals scored by Kimberly Tyson, the recent winner of Best Footballer for Tier 5 women’s football.

The team’s symbolic win saw their first league victory  since the club, along with their home ground, was bought back from administrators this year.

Since their return to the stadium last month, the women’s team have enjoyed a three-match victory streak at Gigg Lane against Fleetwood town Wrens, Clitheroe Wolves and Accrington Stanley Women, who are two divisions higher.

On Tuesday, The Bury FC Supporters Society announced that a Service Level Agreement had been signed to ensure the Bury FC Women will play all their home fixtures at Gigg Lane.

Colin Platt, Bury FC Foundation Women’s manager said: “What a season, playing our last 3 home games at Gigg Lane! To lift the League Champions’ trophy on the title-deciding game of the season in front of hundreds of Bury fans was fantastic!

“We now start to plan for next season, and what better way to start – knowing we will be back at Gigg Lane for next season’s home games in front of the Gigg Lane faithful who cheered us on, and celebrated with us towards the end of this season.

“Hopefully we can repay this belief again next season and push for another League title! The players have the passion and the desire.
