A machine designed to recycle paper caught fire at a business unit this morning, Tuesday.

Fire crews from Bury and Whitefield were sent to Bridge Trading Estate on Bolton Road following the blaze at around 9.05am.

It took crews around three hours to bring the fire under control.

Bury watch manager Gray said: "There was a bit of fire in a small industrial building on Bridge Trading Estate.

"We’re not sure of the origin of the fire as yet,”

The machine, watch manager Gray estimated, was approximately 7m long and 1.5m wide.

The fire was contained to electrical units inside.

Three members of staff in the building where the machine caught fire were initially evacuated while the smoke was cleared from the building.

“Once the smoke had been blown out the building they were able to come back in to assist the fire service with the machinery,” watch manager Gray said.
