A man was reportedly seen wielding a machete in Prestwich at the weekend.

Police were called to Rectory Lane at around 4pm on Sunday to reports that a man had a knife.

The popular Prestwich Clough Day was being held that day less than a mile away from where the man was seen.

Police attended but no suspect was found.

The incident is being investigated.

Inspector Gareth Edwards, of Greater Manchester Police's Bury district, said: "We are piecing together what happened and our enquiries are under way.

"There will be more patrols in the area over the next few days and we will be carrying out weapons sweeps in the green spaces."
