DRUGS seized as part of a high profile operation have been sent to be destroyed.

Pictures show police filling the back of their vans will illegal drugs as part of Operation Avro.

A spokesman for Radcliffe’s neighbourhood police said: “The Radcliffe Neighbourhood Team have been delivering on their promise to investigate and solve crime.

“There has been a large quantity of drugs seized in Radcliffe in recent weeks as part of Operation Avro and other Operations.

“ Today they were sent for destruction.”

Operation Avro, is a new force-wide initiative in Greater Manchester which runs each month in a different district.

The operation is targeted at crimes and individuals that cause residents the most concern.

Recently officers swopped into Bury as part of a crackdown against crime in the borough.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed 80 people had been arrested on suspicion of various offences including burglary, assault, importation of drugs, theft, possession with intent to supply class A drugs, fraud and indecent assault.

And on a police raid on the same day, in total, approximately £650,000 worth of class A and class B drugs and £2,000 cash was seized.
