Since Bury Hospice opened in June 1991, the charity has helped thousands of people through the most difficult times in their lives with specialist, compassionate and palliative end-of-life care.

It will cost £3.5m this year to run the hospice and we have to raise £3m of that ourselves.

The hospice is fortunate to have such amazing support from the Bury community.

That was illustrated perfectly last Friday with a brilliant day on the golf course at Mottram Hall Hotel Golf Club, organised by Financial Options Group.

Christian Pepper, founder and CEO of Financial Options Group, said: “It felt incredible to be golfing with a bunch of fantastic people all in aid of Bury Hospice.

"A massive thanks to everyone who participated and especially to our corporate sponsors.

I also want to thank Sarah Kendell, Melissa Goodwill and the rest of the Financial Options Group Charitable Foundation team, as well as the Mottram Hall Golf Club team for their hospitality.

"Another great event successfully completed which raised over £6,000 for the hospice.”

We have officially launched our annual Strictly Best Foot Forward competition which will see couples go head to head on the dance floor.

We have already had a number of people sign up for this year’s Strictly-style contest but we are appealing for some male contestants to join the team.

Participants are asked to commit to raising £500.

They will undergo 12 weeks of lessons, which will take place on a Sunday afternoon at LARK dance studio in Radcliffe, with dancers who give their time for free, starting in the autumn.

The hospice’s annual golf day will take place at Bury Golf Club on Friday, July 1, sponsored by NFU Mutual Bury for the 10th consecutive year.

We still have three tee times available- 3.30pm, 3.40pm and 3.50pm.

You can register a team of four for £250, which includes full playing fees, on course refreshments and a two course evening meal with complimentary wine.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are available from £100.

If you’ve ever fancied abseiling down the iconic Peel Tower, now is your chance to undertake the 128-foot descent down the Sir Robert Peel memorial on Holcombe Hill.

The abseil will take place on Saturday, July 16.

Registration is £30 and includes a Hospice t-shirt.

All participants will be asked to raise £50.

The hospice is also looking for teams to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge on Saturday, September 3.

Starting and finishing in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, this challenge starts early to take on a full day hill walk.

The circular route is 24 miles and will see you climb the summits of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m).

The challenge is to complete the walk within 12 hours and our experienced guides will be with you every step of the way, brought to you by Mountain Edge.

The registration fee is £35 per person with a suggested sponsorship of £200.
