One postcode area in Lancashire has been named one of the luckiest in the country for Postcode Lottery wins.

New research has looked at winning statistics from the Postcode Lottery since January 2011 to identify the areas with the highest number of winners to work out which parts of the country have the best luck.

Online card game SolitaireBliss crunched the numbers to work out the number of wins per 100,000 people in each area to compile a top ten of the luckiest areas, with one being in Lancashire.

Placing as the sixth luckiest area of the country was Lancaster – the LA postcode – which has had 80.92 wins per 100,000 people since 2011, with 266 wins from a population of 328,704 people. This is 51 per cent higher than the national average.

The luckiest area of the country is Exeter (EX) with a score of 88.03, followed by Telford (TF) with a score of 87.71, and Darlington (DL) in third with 83.66.

At the other end of the scale, West Central London (WC) is the unluckiest postcode in the UK, after ranking with a score of 78 wins per 100,000, 69 per cent lower than the UK national average.

The bottom seven postcodes are all London-based.

On the findings, a SolitaireBliss spokesperson said: “Postcodelottery.co.uk claims that over two-thirds of Great Britain’s postcodes are playing, with winners announced every day.

“So why do some areas have greater luck than others? Some reasons for this can be due to the number of players registered for each postcode, so nine entries for one postcode will have greater chances of winning the Postcode Millions prize than a single person entering their postcode alone.

“This does not apply for any other prizes though, so for those postcode sectors that have greater than average luck when it comes to winning the £30,000 prize, it is likely that there are more individual postcodes registered in the area than usually seen elsewhere in the UK.”
