Prestwich Carnival is returning this weekend bigger and better as it celebrates its hundredth year.

Once a year St Mary’s Park hosts a great family day out including a fun fair, a variety of stalls, donkey rides, live music, charity dog show and much more.

On Sunday, the Thornley Groves Grand Parade will make its way through the streets of Prestwich following a 1.5-mile route starting at 12 noon following the route below.

Bury Times:

There will be over 30 parade participants including the Mayor of Bury, local scout groups, 10 different morris dancing groups and much more.

The carnival hasn’t been held for the last two years due to the pandemic, but organisers say they will make this year extra special for the people of Prestwich and the surrounding areas.

The free main stage, sponsored by Anatolian Grill and hosted by Roch Valley Radio, will this year host a Saturday afternoon community stage and any groups wishing to perform are invited to contact the organisers.

The Prestwich Carnival is organised entirely by volunteers and takes many months of planning in the lead up to the event.

There are some road closures and bus diversions to be aware of.

Rectory Lane will be closed between Clarks Hill and St Mary’s Road from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Sunday to allow the parade to assemble.

The parade will take place 12:00 – 14:00 as shown when the following road closures will be in operation: Rectory Lane, Heywood Road, Heys Road, Fairfax Road, Bury New Road and St Mary’s Road.
