If ever a photograph reflected a Sixties’ childhood, then this surely is it.

Taken in Unsworth in 1967 it shows children in a different era; a time when playing out in the street was common.

The street was your football pitch, your cycle track and a place where young imaginations ran riot. And who remembers having a tricycle like the one in the foreground?

Of course there was far less traffic around in those days. A street today would no doubt be lined with parked cars making it virtually impossible to play out in the street.

But back in the Sixties, youngsters would come home from school and would straight away head back out to play with their friends.

What are you childhood memories of 'playing out'? Do you think youngsters today are perhaps missing out on that experience?
