The shape of things to come – this photo, taken from the roof of Bury’s new police HQ in Irwell Street, shows work in progress on the large roundabout which would link Bolton Street and the town’s inner relief road in 1969.
The new road layout would change the whole town centre and remains topic of discussion even today.
Does anyone remember the lone mill chimney standing proud in the background or even identify the mill way off in the distance in the top left of the photograph?
