Bury College held its first annual College Golf Day last Friday to help build relationships between students and businesses.

The day, held on Friday, July 22, was designed as a way of building relationships with businesses.

Some in attendance have already hosted Bury College students on work experience placements with many providing students with that first step on the career path with an apprenticeship.

Organisations in attendance included, Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust, Rentokil and PPS Commercials.

Other businesses in attendance gained a greater understanding of the benefits of working with us.

Nigel Shields, project manager for training and skills at Bury College, said: “The Bury College Golf Day was a fantastic way to meet many employers all in the space of one day.

“There were some great discussions about supporting the college and looking after recruitment for the future.

“Next year’s event will grow from what we have learned from this event and hope to reward our charity of choice with some much-needed income.”

Simon Moore from Fluent Finance, based in Bolton, also enjoyed his day.

He said: “This event has allowed me to have fun and talk about our future student support needs, I can’t wait for next year.”

Dan Bolton, managing director of Water Engineering Services Ltd, based in Bury, added: “The day was very well organised, at a very good venue.

“It was great to actually meet Nigel and the team at Bury College in person and will now allow us to create better opportunities for future engineers within the North West.”
