A Bury lawyer has been shortlisted for a prestigious legal award.

Melanie Gavin has been shortlisted in The Bar Council Employed Bar Awards 2022 following her work with NHS organisations across the country.

Melanie, who works at Ward Hadaway, is a commercial barrister with more than 20 years of experience in the private and public sectors and is now one of three nominees in the EBA category for Employed Barrister of the Year.

Talking about her nomination, Melanie said: “I am hugely honoured to be shortlisted in this highly competitive category, alongside some of the country’s most talented and experienced barristers.

“It’s humbling to receive recognition for our partnership with NHS organisations and the work we do to help them become more agile and efficient, supporting them through organisational changes.

“Good luck to all the nominees, I am looking forward to the awards ceremony and celebrating the legal talent we have here in the UK.”

Established in 2017, the EBAs showcase the talent among employed barristers and celebrate the vital contributions they make across practice areas.

Managing partner Martin Hulls said: “Melanie’s nomination is well deserved.

"She’s a highly skilled and experienced barrister and plays a critical role in Ward Hadaway’s partnership with the NHS, helping the organisation to identify new ways of working and improving efficiencies and effectiveness.

“Using her commercial experience, Melanie recognises the need to spend time with clients to understand their organisational objectives and provides legal support at all levels.

"We wish Melanie the very best of luck at the awards.”

Judging the EBAs will be senior members of the profession and judiciary, alongside the Chair of the Bar, Mark Fenhalls QC.

The winner will be announced on Thursday, October 20 at a black tie dinner at Gray’s Inn, one of the historic societies that educate and train barristers.
