When news hit of a brand-new pizza restaurant opening in Prestwich, we sent our reporters to head over and try it out for themselves.

Dokes Pizzeria in Prestwich officially opened its doors on Wednesday, July 20, selling authentic stone-baked pizza topped with the finest British produce.

The Bury New Road premises also offers an array of brunch and lunch dishes too.

Alice Gerrard, who went along with fellow Bury Times reporters Harriet Heywood and Isabel Oldman, has described what their experience at the venue was like.

Our review of Dokes Pizzeria's evening menu

When we arrived at Dokes Pizzeria in Prestwich, we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff who showed us to our table.

The restaurant has a booth-style layout and has an open plan type kitchen so you can see your pizza being prepared right in front of you.

The menu has a wide range of starters and pizzas as well as salads and pasta dishes.

For starters, aptly named ‘bits’ on the menu, I decided to go for the marinated anchovies in rapeseed oil and lemon, Harriet went for the croquette of the week which was a lamb filled one and Isabel went for the pickles and ferments in a lemon thyme ricotta.

The food was beautifully presented, and the plates were polished off in a record time.

The croquette was filled with tender lamb that was extremely light and tender and delicious, the anchovies were perfectly salted and seasoned and the pickles and ferments were the perfect dish for anyone vegetarian/vegan.

Next up was the star of the show – the pizza.

I controversially went for the ‘Ananas’ pizza which was a fancy ‘ham and pineapple’ pizza, Harriet went for the ‘Roll Right’ pizza which was topped with new potato, smoked bacon, Rollright cheese and crème fraiche which was the chef’s favourite.

Isabel went for the ‘Funghi’ pizza which was topped with wild, seasonal mushrooms, confit garlic and truffle which were locally sourced and one of three vegetarian and vegan options.

Again, conversation was minimal, and we were all left very impressed and extremely full.

The relaxed atmosphere along with the music makes it the perfect place to go out with friends and definitely made a nice change to our usual Wednesday evenings!

Despite being stuffed full of pizza and myself even asking for a doggy bag, it would have been rude not to order dessert – so we did.

I went for a lemon posset with macerated strawberries in an attempt to feel slightly healthier and it was beautifully light with a strong kick of lemon and Harriet and Isabel tackled the chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream and popcorn which looked heavenly.

With reasonable prices and a wide range of drinks, Dokes is the perfect place to go with family, friends or colleagues.

If you live local, we definitely encourage you to go down and support the new restaurant and try their stunning pizzas for yourself.

We definitely think you won’t be disappointed!
