A 100-seater stand has been opened at Whitefield's Prestwich Heys Football Club to welcome more fans to roar the side on this season.

The North West Counties Premier Division side unveiled the stand at Adie Moran Park ahead of the club's opening home game of the season against Burscough on Saturday.

The club welcomed Bury mayor, Cllr Shaheena Haroon, and mayoress, Cllr Ayesha Arif, who were joined by Cllr Imran Rizvi to officially open the stand, which is sponsored by Global Auctioneers.

The visit was arranged by the Holyrood councillors Imran Rizvi and Elliot Moss, who are working closely with the club to strengthen its involvement with the community.

The mayor and her party met with club officials, players and fans then declared the stand open by cutting a red ribbon.

She then delivered a speech in which she thanked the sponsors for enabling the new stand to become a reality and the fans and volunteers for their hard work, financial contributions and loyalty.

Cllr Haroon finished by wishing the manager and players all the very best for the upcoming season.

The well wishes came into effect immediately as Heys beat Burscough 3-0, sending the 202 spectators home happy.

The stand represents a new era for the club with a new management team of former Heys players Lee O'Brien and James Hampson, who took charge in the summer.

The family-orientated club is hoping to go in a new and exciting direction this season and is eager to welcome new spectators and volunteers.
