A community centre has opened at Bury's Gigg Lane.

The Fishpool, Goshen, Redvales and Springs (FGRS) Community Hub's cafe, school uniform schemes and array of events have already boosted Redvales residents.

Through the efforts of hard-working volunteers led by Gem Goss, Sherridan Matthews and Elizabeth Brockbank, the FGRS Community Hub is set to continue its important work.

The opening was attended by a whole host of guests including residents, volunteers and other community organisations.

Bury North MP James Daly was also in attendance.

He said: “Gem, Sherridan, Liz and all the team are integral to transforming Gigg Lane into a multi-purpose community hub for the benefit of the whole community and all local residents.”

Since closing its doors, Gigg Lane has been transformed by volunteers who have repaired the stands, repainted communal areas and returning the pitch to its former glory.

Mr Daly added: “Gigg Lane is looking absolutely magnificent, and we should all give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to bring the iconic stadium back to life.”
