A fire broke out at a flat in Bury last night, Saturday, in a suspected arson attack.

Police were called at 11.17pm, following reports of a ‘suspicious fire’ in a block of flats on Tennyson Avenue.

The offender is described as around 5ft tall, and was wearing a black jumper with a hood, black trousers, and holding a petrol canister.

According to police, the person is believed to have poured petrol through a property's letterbox, before it set on fire.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police Bury South said: “We are appealing for information following a suspected arson on Tennyson Avenue in Bury.

“At 11.17pm last night (Saturday), police were called by fire service colleagues to a report of a suspicious fire at a block of flats on Tennyson Avenue, Bury.

“An investigation has been launched to locate the offender, who has been described as around 5ft tall and wearing a black jumper with a hood, black trousers, and holding a petrol canister.

“It is believed that petrol was poured through a letterbox of a flat before being ignited.”

There were no reported injuries during the incident.
