Prestwich will host its inaugural pride event this weekend boasting a variety of activities ‘to bring the village together'.

Prestwich Pride will take place on Saturday, August 13 to be hosted at the bar Cuckoo on Bury New Road.

The event will be a day-long celebration of love and inclusivity in Prestwich village.

The grassroots event, put together by friends in the community, will aim to bring the village together and celebrate love in all its forms.

Over recent weeks, local businesses have rallied together to support the event with contributions to an incredible raffle.

Local artist and philanthropist Myroslava Coates, ‘Myrodoodles’, has adorned the windows of local businesses with Pride artwork in exchange for donations to George House Trust, a Manchester-based organisation supporting those living with HIV.

On Saturday, the event begins with family crafts before DJs take to the decks to spin the perfect Pride soundtrack throughout the day and well into the night.

Manchester drag queen and cabaret bombshell Miss Blair will also be bringing a touch of vintage glamour and hilarity to Prestwich with her PA performance at 6pm.

Then on Monday, Cuckoo’s event will culminate with a screening of Matthew Warchus’s ‘Pride’ film, with tickets available from the bar in advance – and their signature Pride cocktail will remain on sale throughout the month of August.

Fundraising is already off to a fantastic start, with donations pouring in from raffle tickets, window donations, film tickets and Cuckoo’s signature Pride cocktail with the proceeds going directly to the George House Trust.

The film tickets, sold at a cost of £25.00, entitle holders to a pizza, cocktail, and film screening, £5.00 from each ticket sale goes directly to George House Trust.

Cuckoo’s signature Pride cocktail is available throughout August with £1.00 from each purchase going directly to George House Trust.

On the decks, Phil Sanders, Jonny Mangas, Beat Boutique, and also Just Jane, ‘JJ’ from local DJ collective Take Me To Church, are all giving their time and talent for free.
