A round-up of Bury cases heard by magistrates recently.

Thefts

A man has been given a suspended sentence after admitting to several thefts across Radcliffe and Bury.

Frank Barrow, aged 25, of Craven Street, Bury, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court that he had stolen alcohol worth £490 from Asda between April 2 and April 11 this year, along with a mobile phone worth £800 on May 10 and £134 worth of alcohol and coffee from Tesco on May 25.

He was given a total prison sentence of six months, suspended for a year and was ordered to pay compensation of £250.

Criminal damage

A man was fined after committing criminal damage and possessing cannabis.

Lewis Kane, aged 28 of Bolton Road, Radcliffe, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court that he had damaged property worth under £5000 on March 22 this year and that he had cannabis in his possession on March 23.

He was ordered to pay a fine of £300 while magistrates also ordered that the cannabis be destroyed.

Cannabis

A man was fined for possession of cannabis.

Hussain Azam, aged 39 of Parkhills Road, Bury, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court that he had the Class B drug in his possession on July 20 this year.

He was fined £80 and magistrates ordered that the drugs he was found with be destroyed.

Knife

A man was bailed after admitting to having a knife in a public place.

Waqas Awan, aged 22 of Richmond Street, Bury, pleaded guilty at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court to possession of a knife in a public place in Bury on August 18 this year.

He also admitted to possession of cannabis that same day.

Awan was remanded on unconditional bail and will be brought back before the court on October 28.

Assault

A man was jailed after assaulting a police officer and committing racially aggravated harassment.

Martin McDonagh, aged 51 of St John’s Court, Radcliffe admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court that he committed both crimes on September 13 in Bury.

He was given a total period of eight weeks in prison with a conditional discharge period of 18 months to run concurrently.

Drink Driving

A man has been banned from the roads after drink driving in Bury.

Quinton Rainbird, aged 46 of Abington Avenue, Whitefield, admitted to Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court that he had driven a VW Golf on Cambridge Grove, Bury while over the legal alcohol limit on August 8 this year.

He also admitted to being uninsured and already serving a ban.

Rainbird was given a sentence of 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 24 months, was banned from driving for three years and was ordered to complete 10 days of rehabilitation activity days.
