A section of a former Ramsbottom pub which is a Grade II listed building has been given a new lease of life in an unexpected business switch.

Married couple and Medivet team, Ian and Kay Ross, have been working to convert an area of the Grants Arms site on Market Place into a veterinary practice.

Having outgrown their building on Central Street, Medivet will be moving to the new location later this year.

The veterinary duo say the facilities will offer a higher standard of care to their patients in a more contemporary and comfortable working environment, with improved car parking.

Ian said:  “We will have four consulting rooms with separate dog and cat kennels and waiting areas to reduce stress for our feline patients in particular.

“We will also have an operating theatre, an isolation facility, as well as an X-ray room and a room for carrying out dental procedures.

“We’re installing the latest piped gas system as this will reduce the need for deliveries of oxygen cylinders, used for anaesthesia, thereby reducing our carbon footprint.”

With five registered veterinary nurses, a soon-to-qualify nurse and reception staff, Kay said that they now need more space.

She added: “We are fortunate to have outgrown our previous building.

“We have increased in size from a two-vet practice in 2017 to now having five vets, including two with advanced qualifications.

“We also have staff with diplomas in feline and canine behaviour.”

Thanking their team and Medivet for helping create the "dream practice", Kay said: “Watching it come to life before our eyes is exciting and we can’t wait to open our doors and welcome our first patients later this year.”

Speaking about moving into a Grade II listed building, Ian said that Medivet is investing significantly into its conversion.

He added: “Preserving the building’s heritage has been a priority for us in the design of the practice”.
