A Ramsbottom street was closed after a truck lost control and rolled down a hill before hitting a garage.

Emergency services were called to Cheshire Court shortly before noon on Saturday after the vehicle, reportedly a bin wagon, rolled down a hill following a brake failure.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that while no-one was seriously hurt the truck struck a nearby garage.

Cheshire Court is a residential street which sits on a steep hill close to the M66 and the A65.

The street was sealed off while emergency services attended and the area around the truck was taped off. 

A recovery vehicle was also seen parked on the road. 

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 11.55am this morning (Saturday), officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a truck on Cheshire Court in Ramsbottom.

“Emergency services attended the scene.

“Initial enquiries suggest that the truck was driving down hill on Cheshire court when the brakes have failed, the truck rolled down the hill and has collided into a garage.

"No serious injuries have been reported.

“Officers remain at the scene to conduct further enquiries.”

A spokesperson from Bury Council said: “We can confirm that a collision involving a council vehicle occurred.

“A council employee suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene by NWAS.

“The driver has provided information, in line with procedure, and all relevant agencies have been notified.”
