BURY AFC moved a step closer to a trip to Wembley following their impressive 4-0 win against Holker Old Boys in the fourth round of the FA Vase.

In a game switch to Darwen FC’s 4G pitch, first half goals from Harry Brazel, Connor Comber and Niall Cummins and a second half strike from Lewis Gilboy sealed victory against the NWCL First Division North side.

Bury will now travel to either Tring Athletic or Walsall Wood in the fifth round.

Boss Andy Welsh admitted he was ‘buzzing’ as Bury are now just three more wins away from a trip to Wembley.

“I am buzzing that we are through as we make history again with that result and we go on in to the next round,” he told the club website. “The work rate from the lads was absolutely outstanding from start to finish.

“It is tough when you are not playing but we knew they hadn’t played in a while and, like we always do, we don’t want to give anyone a second on the ball and I thought we did that from second one and didn’t stop until that final whistle blew.”

Attention now turns to the NWCL Premier Division with Bury travelling to bottom-of-the-table Ashton Athletic buoyed from their Lancashire Challenge Trophy win at Radcliffe on Tuesday night.

“We are not going to go in to any game and disrespect any team,” added Welsh. “We know that they will be a really, really tough proposition at their place.

“They beat Radcliffe so they will be raring to go. We have just got to make sure that now we recover well and prepare right for Saturday and turn our attention to the league and another excited game for us to look forward to.”
