It had previously been the site of the old Radcliffe Central Station goods yard but when this picture was taken in December 1974 it was being transformed into a new secondary school for 750 pupils.
The first stage of Radcliffe East Secondary School was due to be completed in October 1975 and would take around 450 pupils.
