A fire broke out at a warehouse in the early hours of today, Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to a unit at Bealey Industrial Estate, off Dumers Lane in Radcliffe, which had just undergone a series of work to transform it.

We had previously reported that the fire took place at Shepherds Auctions following information from the fire service.

However, the fire broke out in a different unit and has no connection to the business.

The fire damaged part of the wall and ceiling, and manager of the unit Shilly Thomashev says work had just been carried out.

He was on his way to work at around 7.50am when he received a call from his boss that a fire had broken out.

Shilly said: “There was nothing there to set the fire off and I’m not sure how it started.

“I was on my way to work at around 7.50am when my boss called me and said not to touch anything.

“My boss found out about it because the landlord phoned him and said there had been a fire, and for him to come as soon as possible.”

The fire happened at around 4.10am, and firefighters from Whitefield, Bury, and Broughton arrived with a platform to deal with the flames from an aerial position.

The crews stayed on the scene to tackle the fire until around 7.30am.

Whitefield Fire Station watch manager Paul Ratcliffe said: “We had a building fire in a property on the industrial estate off Dumers Lane.

“Three engines attended, and a platform were in attendance which equated to 17 or 18 fire fighters.

“There was a quantity of building materials that caused damage to the gas main and some of the roof sustained damage.

“We’re led to believe that it was accidental."

No-one was injured in the incident and police were not required.
