A man has been rescued after suffered a leg injury while out walking in the Dovestones area.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) was called to Chew Bridge at around noon on Monday after a request from North West Ambulance Service to help with the "location, treatment and evacuation" of a man who suffered a suspected ruptured quadricep.

As the team’s vehicles arrived, one of the casualty's companions was able to guide the rescuers to his location near Wimberry Boulders.

He was assessed and treated by the team’s doctor before being carried on the stretcher approximately 500m to the waiting ambulance.

A total of 14 OMRT personnel were involved in the incident for an hour and 30 minutes.

OMRT leader Rob Tortoishell said: ”We wish the gentleman all the best for a speedy recovery, and thanks to his companions for helping to carry some of our kit out.”
