An eight-year-old girl has completed a fitness challenge in memory of her dad who had motor neurone disease.

Maya Davidson, from Whitefield, did 2,000 burpees after her dad Rob died aged 34 from the disease seven years ago when she was only 11 months old old.

Maya finished the challenge throughout September and has since raised £2,927.

Money will go to the end of life charity Marie Curie and The Robert Sinclair Davidson Foundation, set up in Rob's name.

Maya’s mum, Sariet Davidson, 37, said: “Maya lost her daddy to motor neurone disease when she was just 11 months old.

“Rob was just 34 when he died and the hardest part about his illness was knowing he wouldn’t be around to watch Maya grow up.

“Maya decided she wanted to raise money for the charities close to our hearts in memory of her dad.

“Maya chose to support The Robert Sinclair Davidson Foundation which was set up by her dad before he died to help young families facing financial challenges following a life changing diagnosis, and Marie Curie, which cared for Rob during the last few months of his life.”

Marie Curie community fundraiser, Tracy Annunziato, added: “We’re absolutely blown away by Maya’s determination to raise money in memory of her dad Rob who received care from one of our hospices before he died.

“I’d like to thank Maya and her family for all their support.

“It’s thanks to fantastic fundraisers like Maya that Marie Curie is able to provide care and support to families affected by terminal illness all across the UK, in our hospices, through our nursing services and with our free information and support line.”
