A hiker was rescued in Saddleworth with the help of a helicopter on Saturday after suffering a suspected fractured ankle following a slip on ice.
The woman sustained the injury at Dean Rocks near Dovestones in Greenfield at around lunchtime.
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) received a request for help from Greater Manchester Police and used PhoneFind technology to find the exact location of the casualty.
Due to the extremely hazardous nature of the route out for a stretcher carry, the team requested the need for a Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter, which transferred the the woman, her partner, and some of the mountain rescue team down to Greenfield Reservoir and a waiting North West Ambulance Service ambulance.
Fifteen OMRT personnel were involved in the incident for just over three hours.
OMRT team leader Rob Tortoishell said: ”Huge thanks to the casualty's friends, who did all the right things by carrying extra clothing and keeping her warm while waiting for help to arrive.
“Thanks also to R912 from Humberside for the helicopter, the ice on the paths was treacherous and would have made carrying the stretcher down a tricky undertaking.”
