Police have started a murder investigation after a man is thought to have been struck by a Land Rover on a road in East Manchester.

The emergency services attended after a report of an unresponsive man at a scene on Olympic Street at around 10.55am on Saturday.

Police have started a murder investigation after the man is thought to have been struck by a Land Rover. He was declared dead at the scene close to the Etihad Stadium despite the efforts of the emergency services.

There are no arrests at this time and detectives are appealing for information from the public.

Detective Inspector Rachel Smith, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "Firstly, I would like to thank the brave members of the public who came to assist as emergency services arrived at the scene.

"This is a tragic incident where a man lost his life and our priority at this time is supporting his family and getting them the answers they deserve. Our thoughts remain with them at this devastating time.

"I understand the shock that this incident will cause the community. I want to reassure residents that we have specialist officers working to piece together a timeline of events leading up to this incident.

"I ask anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area this morning to come forward and to know any information will be treated with the strictest confidence. We would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage. Regardless of how small this detail may seem it could be key to our investigation."
