BURY College students learned about the law-making process during a visit by Baroness Ruth Henig.
She spoke to 100 students on the A-level law course about her time in the House of Lords, including meeting former prime minister Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher.
Baroness Henig, who was awarded the CBE in 2000 for services to policing, is a former councillor and chairman of Lancashire Police Authority.
She is now a life peer, Deputy Lieutenant for Lancashire, and chairman of the Security Industry Authority.
