THERE seems to be a growing trend for letter writers to these pages to stay anonymous.

From the content of some letters you can understand why the writer would prefer to stay anonymous, but in most cases there is no apparent reason, other than the writer simply hasn’t got the bottle to add his/her name to the comments they have made.

The Bolton News letters page has always been a splendid forum, where opinions are given and debates entered into. But it is difficult to debate with a name and address supplied. There could be more than one anonymous writer in the same debate. How do you keep track of who is saying what?

It seems too that one of these anonymous writers also likes to send letters through the post to other regular writers. However, the letters he/she sends us are definitely not the sort you would read in a family newspaper.

Can I say to this nameless nonentity, too afraid to add his/her name to their correspondence, that it is very dangerous to send elderly people vile, anonymous letters. I could have broken my arm when I fell off my chair laughing.
