IN reference to the go-ahead to the relocation of Holcombe Brook Tennis Club, I would like to point out that I do not have anything against the club, having lived in Holcombe Brook and Ramsbottom almost all my life I am fully aware of the good work and no little success they have achieved.

Why are people employed to go through planning applications, investigating both sides to the argument and come up with recommendations as to the best plan of action regarding local concerns and the legal framework which it is set within? The big problem is when politicians are involved.

The Hazel Hall Lane site is the first part of open countryside one reaches directly north out of Manchester and gives a vital breathing space to prevent Holcombe Brook and Greenmount being swallowed up into the conurbation mass to the south.

I’m sure the relative quiet area of the site is why the Forest of Remembrance was located there. I fear that building on this green field site is the thin end of the wedge and could lead to more applications being received.
