IN the Bury Times February 17, you published a photo of Prince William with two Bury medics who have returned from duty in Afghanistan at the “world’s biggest A&E department”. That says a lot!
Within a day, The Independent reported that three British troops had died in combat, bringing the total number of British troops killed in Afghanistan to 357. While we thank God for the two who have returned safely, we grieve for the three soldiers who died.
Ten years ago Blair followed George W Bush and sent British troops into Afghanistan.
The invasion of Afghanistan happened after 9/11, and George W Bush had to do something. He panicked and sent the B52s to bomb what was “left (by the Russians) of Afghanistan”. The Taliban have come and gone and come back again. Bin Laden is still at large, Bush and Blair are out of it. Gordon Brown got us out of Iraq. Obama has had his surge. Now it is David Cameron’s turn.
This war cannot be won.
