A DOUBLE-glazing manufacturer is celebrating 40 years of serving the public.

Radcliffe Glass and Windows was first established in Mellor Street in 1979, offering simple glazing work and cutting glass to size.

But by 1985 they were the first outfit in the area to manufacture their own double-glazing units.

Later with business developing the company made a strategic move to premises at Lodge Brow.

Current boss Clive Power became involved with Radcliffe Glass in 2001 when, along with two family members, he bought the operation.

And while he says he was slightly apprehensive at first, having enjoyed a successful sales career with General Electric.

"It was a risk me and Kelly were willing to take. On becoming the new owners, we immediately changed the trading name to Radcliffe Glass and Windows to mark our wider ambitions," he said.

Their attention to detail has seen the firm grow by more than 2,000 per cent in the intervening years.

The couple are now sole owners of the business, buying out their partners 12 years ago. And the drive to continue developing their offering is undimmed.

He is looking for Radcliffe Glass to become the largest home improvement company in their sector in the north west.

Mr Power added: "There are so many exciting things happening right now, with our new products, new showroom and the culture being developed within the business."

Plans are now being formulated for a major showroom development on site.
