A NEW parking payment system is to be introduced at Cockhedge Shopping Centre.

From next month, new machines will be installed by Parking Eye – the firm which runs many other car parks in town.

Drivers will enter their registration at one of the machines in the car park and when they want to leave, go back to the machine which will calculate whether there will be a charge.

Shopping Centre bosses say two hours will still be free, but for any payment, drivers can use card, contactless payment, cash, pay by phone up until midnight of that same day.

The changes will come in on May 13.

A spokesman for Cockhedge said: "There will be extra parking attendants on site for a few weeks after the new machines have been installed, to help with any questions you may have.

"We hope this will be better for everyone, and lead to a better experience for our shoppers."

Cockhedge brought in cameras, similar to those used at Warrington Hospital, in late 2015 which caused anger and confusion for many shoppers.
