A COMMUNITY will unite to remember a much-loved Radcliffe man who was a victim of the Manchester Arena attack.

Radcliffe will join together in the town centre in memory of 28-year-old John Atkinson.

The special celebration of his life, on Saturday, December 23, will see carollers and dancers perform.

The gathering is an opportunity to bring a glimpse of happiness to John's family members, while fundraising for Friendly Faces.

Organiser Kerry Paul, aged 32, said: "This is really for the family, and to show them that they are in our thoughts, and that John is not forgotten.

"He was a big fan of Christmas."

Family friend Ms Paul, who grew up on the Outwood Road estate with John, has organised a raffle and DJ for the event. Santa is also due to make an appearance.

It is hoped a choir will sing a selection of carols at 1.30pm, followed by a performance from Freak Dance company at 2pm.

Ms Paul, who now lives in in London, said: "We have been family friends for as long as I can remember.

"They are a wonderful family and have maintained such dignity throughout this hard ordeal. If anyone else had been in this situation, they would have been the first to help.

"I want them to know they are not alone and that John is always in our hearts."

Residents are invited to join in the town centre from 1pm.
