WHY is it that on any public holidays and weekends Bury Council deems it fit not to provide any litter clearing or Park Warden service at all?

While the bulk of the service and retail sector contribute to the enjoyment of the local and visiting populous, the council — a service provider — wallows in the outdated practices of the 1960s.

About the only area of Bury that remains well manicured and litter free is around the town hall — hardly the busiest attraction over the holidays.

Do any of the town hall executives not notice the general detritus of litter, overflowing litter bins and even piles of dumped leaf litter on all (Rochdale Road in particular) the major routes into town.

Do any of them visit any of the the local parks? Manchester Road Park, for example, hang your heads in shame!

Does the council take into account the extra demands of good weather on the public spaces?

Low and behold, when the holidays are over and the parks are less busy, maybe a half-hearted attempt is made to clean up.

A review of council work and enforcement practices should be dragged into the present day.

After all, the council has no problem with enforcing all the legislation upon the other seven-day-a-week service providers under its scrutiny!

You cannot blame all aspect of Bury Council inefficiencies on budget cuts.
