BURY extended their miserable club-record losing streak to 10 league games after they surrendered a two-goal lead against Millwall.

James Vaughan scored twice in the second half to give the Shakers a comfortable lead but Niall Maher was sent off for a deliberate handball in the Bury box that turned the game on its head.

Shaun Williams scored the resulting spot kick and substitute Callum Butcher headed in the equaliser four minutes from time.

Deep into added time Aiden O'Brien slotted home the winner to break Shakers' hearts and extend their winless run in all competitions to 14 games.

Chris Brass made three changes from the side that narrowly lost to Sheffield United in midweek.

Greg Leigh and Jacob Mellis both missed out through suspension while Andrew Tutte dropped to the bench.

In came Maher to patch up the back four and Neil Danns and Kelvin Etuhu added fresh legs to central midfield.

The Lions were granted a great chance to take the lead inside 12 seconds but Shaun Williams lifted the over the crossbar from close range.

Controversy struck in the 15th minute when Fred Onyedinma crashed into the back of Maher in the Bury box and referee Chris Sarginson bizarrely pointed to the spot.

However, after a consultation with his assistant, the referee correctly reversed his decision.

The Shakers had to weather the Millwall storm and a number of last-ditch blocks kept the game goalless.

Bury had their own dominant spell midway through the first half with decent chances arriving to Danns and James Vaughan but both shot wide.

Millwall took the ascendancy going into half time which forced Brass into two changes at the break.

Right-back Jones was replaced by 16-year-old Jacob Bedeau for his debut and Tutte replaced Danns in the centre of midfield.

On the hour mark Vaughan headed Bury into the lead via the underside of the crossbar after meeting Danny Mayor's pin-point cross.

The striker scored his and the Shakers' second goal six minutes later when he clinically finished after Burgess did all the hard work to set him up.

But in the 70th minute, Maher handled Onyedinma's shot on the goal-line and gave away a penalty which also resulted in him being shown the red card.

Williams duly tucked away the resulting spot kick.

In the aftermath, Bury skipper Antony Kay picked up his fifth yellow card of the season, which means he will now be suspended for the next match against Bristol Rovers.

Millwall rallied for the equaliser and got their just deserts four minutes from time when substitute Butcher flicked home Shane Ferguson's free-kick.

And O'Brien piled on the misery, as Bury conceded a stoppage-time winner for the second straight match, leaving Brass still looking for his first win as temporary manager after his third match in charge.
