SOME of the money raised in Friday's Comic Relief Day is being used to fund an inclusive tag rugby programme at Bolton RUFC.

Bolton coaches have teamed up with Sale Sharks Community Trust and Premiership Rugby to deliver the Comic Relief project, which is designed to open up the game to disabled players.

Organisers are looking for anyone with a physical or learning impairment and aged between six and 18 years old to sign up to the new sessions, which will begin at Rumworth School, in Armadale Road, Bolton, on Wednesday, April 26.

Peter Gore, from Bolton RUFC, said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside Sale Sharks Community Trust to raise the profile of inclusive tag rugby and to show that rugby really is an inclusive game with a place for everyone.

“We know there are things people feel would prevent them from getting involved, but with the help of the Sharks and Bolton coaches we’re confident we can overcome almost any challenge.”

The new project promotes total inclusion across the game and is part of a range of inclusive rugby programmes delivered by the Sharks Community Trust.

“As a club we’re committed to making sure rugby is as accessible as possible to anyone who wants to play,” said Sale Sharks Community Trust Inclusion Officer Vicky Irwin.

“Through our inclusive rugby programmes we want to remove any barriers that prevent people from playing the game they – and we – love.

“The work we are doing in Bolton is so important in showing what a powerful tool rugby can be but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of Comic Relief and Premiership Rugby.”
