THREE Bury members competed at the North West Schools Combined Events Championships held in Stockport and put on a good display.

In the under-17 women’s heptathlon, Daisy Worthington showed she was recovering from her troublesome knee operation by taking sixth place overall in a new personal best points score of 3,924.

Her individual performances were very encouraging and comprised of 200m in 27.27secs; 800m in 2:31.41; 80m hurdles in 13.75; a 1.45m high jump; a 4.74m long jump; a 9.69m shot putt and 25.98m for the javelin.

Jay Cook competed in the u15 boys' pentathlon and took a pleasing 18th place with a new best points score of 1,802.

He recorded new best marks in the 800m (2:35.84) and high jump (1.53m).

His other performances were – 75m hurdles 15.13, long jump 4.53m and 9.13m in the shot.

Ella Hall, competing in the u15 girls' pentathlon amassed a total score of 1,900 points.

She set new bests in the 75m hurdles (14.75) and high jump (1.21m) with other good performances in the 800m (2:59.96), long jump (4.19m) and shot (8.74m).

More than 200 children from 21 schools competed over a range of events as Bury AC hosted the Bury Primary School Sports Association Athletics Championships at their Market Street track on Saturday.

The event, organised by club member and teacher at Greenmount Primary School, Ben Coop, included sprints for boys and girls from Years 3, 4, and 6 and a 600m race for Year 5 and Year 6 children as well as relay races.

On the field there were long jump, shot and javelin competitions.

Holly Mount produced consistently high performances and retained their title, with the runners-up Holcombe Brook and Unsworth a strong third.

It was warm work for competitors in Sunday’s Wilmslow Half Marathon and Coop showed no ill effects from his efforts at the previous day’s schools competition by taking a brilliant 16th place in 1:14:38.

Next home was Katie Geelan, taking second place in the F45-plus category with a time of 1:36.32.

Steve Parker was the next finisher in 1:47.19 followed by Ed Hitchin, who took third in the M70-plus category with 1:54.16.

Next came Pam Hitchin (2:05.12) who, with the right conditions, could break the two-hour barrier, followed by Nicola Brown (2:12.32).
