RADCLIFFE AC's Jenny Yates was first vet-50 in the popular We Love Manchester 10k on Sunday.

In a  field of  more than 1,600 on a route billed as fast, she clocked 44mins 58secs in scorching conditions and was presented with a rucksack of goodies by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor June Hitchen.

She was one of  11 from the club running the event, starting and finishing at the Manchester Regional Arena in the Etihad Campus.

Sarah Oxley faced 7,000 feet of climbing, including three mountain passes, when she took on the Ultimate 55k Trails Challenge in the Lake District.

Starting in Ambleside it took her more than 12 hours and she described the heat as "brutal" but she can be proud of finishing such a tough challenge in the conditions.

Rob Lister took on a race that lived up to its name, The Sale Sizzler 5k, and clocked 20:49.

Junior Ben Darbyshire took part in his first triathlon last weekend in the GO TRI Junior Event at Failsworth Sports Centre.

In the under-14s' event, he swam 200m, cycled 2k and ran 1.2k.

Two faced the midweek evening heat the week before to race the tough Rochdale 10k with Oxley clocking 1:03:20 – two minutes slower than last year – and Karen Doherty was five minutes slower than last year with 1:05:01.

Also racing in midweek was vet-50 Mark Wolfenden who ran the Don Ashton Memorial Fell Race at Tockholes, Darwen.

Covering 5.8 miles and 1,099 feet, he clocked 55:44.
