Please see this week’s write of the final YDL (Youth Development League) Lower fixture of the year. I’ve also attached a picture of Erin Kenyon in a javelin competition.

BURY'S Under-15s team ended fifth overall in the Youth Development League Lower after the final fixture of the season at Wigan.

Getting the u15s out to compete and encouraging volunteers to officiate are the biggest challenges being currently faced by Bury AC, and the team finished seventh at Wigan.

Rashaun Currie was the only u15s boy to turn out for Bury. He took third in the 100m (11.9secs), fourth in the 200m (24.7) and fifth in the hammer (13.61m) but the distinct lack of team-mates cost the club dearly.

The u15 girls' team was better represented with nine athletes. Rosella Togo competed in the A 100m (third in 13.6), the B high jump (fifth with 1.20) and the B shot (fourth with 6.15).

Charlie Ireland was fifth in the B 100m (14.9) and B 800m (2.49.3), while Catherine Russell was fifth in the B 200m (29.1), second in the A high jump (1.40) and A hammer (21.18).

Erin Kenyon had a good day, taking third in the A 300m (46.5), second in the B 1500m (5.43.2) and first in the B javelin (20.15).

Grace Gibson was another busy athlete, finishing third in the B300m (46.5), sixth in the A 800m (2.32.9) and third in the B long jump (3.55).

Freya Potts ran a controlled race in the A 1500m to win by just half a second in 5:08.7, while Ella Hall took sixth in the 75m hurdles (15.6), fourth in the A long jump (3.94) and A javelin (21.72).

Alice Lawson was seventh in the A shot (6.30) and first in the B hammer (13.91), while Erin Garroch took sixth in the A discus (9.77) before leading the 4x100m relay team off and with Alice, Charlie and Rosella they took fourth in 58.6.

The 4x300m relay team of Grace, Freya, Catherine and Erin Kenyon took third (3.11.2).

The u13 boys' team was also somewhat depleted. Peter Gardner competed in the sprints, taking seventh in the A 100m (14.8) and sixth in the B 200m (31.8).

Jayden Barlow ran in the B 100m (fifth in 16.0) and Oliver Horford the A 200m (seventh in 30.0). Oliver also ran in the A 800m (sixth in 2.41.7) and took fourth in the B long jump (3.39).

Finley Collings took seventh in the A 1500m (5.48.5) with Jayden finishing fourth in the B (6.02.7). Finley also scored valuable points in the A long jump (sixth in 3.63), while Jayden took seventh in the shot (3.28).

Noah Carter finished fifth in the A 75m hurdles (16.7), while the 4x100m relay team of Jayden, Finley, Oliver and Peter took sixth in 60.5.

The u13 girls put in a strong performance. Enya Hartley won the A 75m in an impressive 10.4 securing her AAA grade-one time in the process.

Mae Gardner won the B race in 10.8, good enough for a AAA grade three, while Leah Hancock and Isabel Lawson took part in the non-scoring 75m race, with Leah recording 11.2 to secure her AAA grade four.

Enya took third in the B 150m (20.7) with Devonne Samuels matching that position in the B race (22.4).

In the A 800m race, Connie Potts was disqualified for a lane infringement, while Anna Gisbourne took second in the B race in 2.34.4.

Esther McGrath finished sixth in the 1200m (4:26) and Mae also took sixth in the A 70m hurdles (14.4) with Leah finishing fifth in the B race (16.2).

In the field events, Connie recovered from her disappointment in the 800m to win the A shot (7.06 – AAA grade four) and take fourth in the A javelin (11.17).

Esther was sixth in the A long jump (3.59) with Leah second in the B (3.55). Esther also took fifth in the A high jump (1.05) with Lucy Hill matching that position and height in the B event.

Enya took second in the B shot (5.06) and Isabel finished fourth in the B javelin (10.60).

The day was rounded off with a victory in the 4x100m relay with Enya, Connie, Mae and Devonne clear winners in 57.5.

Thanks must also go to coach Fiona Healy for taking on the team manager role and the parents who kindly volunteered to help officiate.

Unfortunately, Bury’s lack of qualified officials lost the team 35 points – enough to have moved the team up one position.
