RADCLIFFE AC’s Dave McGrath had a good week when he finished eighth out of 187 runners in the Pennington Flash 5 Mile Trail Race on Sunday after having a good run out on the hills in the midweek Golf Ball Fell Race.

He clocked 30mins 25secs in the trail event at Leigh and came 16th in the fell race out of 236 runners with a time of 41:49.

The club had a fine turnout for the trail race despite the wet conditions with 28 taking part and getting plenty of prizes.

Close on McGrath’s heels was Ian Warrington in ninth position in 30:44.

Being run for the 10th time, the race was on country paths and tracks around Leigh Sports Village and the Pennington Flash Country Park.

The race was another in the Run The Moors Grand Prix and with only two races left, competition is hotting up between the clubs taking part and the good turnout won Radcliffe valuable points.

The race was also the last of a midweek series of four local events organised by Rossendale Harriers and two members completed all four.

McGrath was third overall in the series and Lisa Carter second woman V45 and sixth woman overall.

It was girl power when six women from the club took part at the Salford midweek to race in

the Media City 10k and 5k.

On four fast, flat laps in the 10k, Katie Benson clocked 54:35 followed closely by Caroline Malone, getting a personal-best time and third vet-45 placing, in 54:52.
