CLUB vice chairman Roger Morley was Bury’s sole competitor at the Masters Athletics Championships held at the Alexander Park Stadium in Birmingham and he came away with a silver medal.

Competing in the V60 triple jump, he took second spot with a best leap of 8.44m.

Morley was a little disappointed at not finding his best form, however his season’s best of 9.38 would still not have won the gold medal.

He has been competing for Bury for more than 40 years and taking on the triple jump with all the pressure it puts on the joints is no small feat.

It was a productive bank holiday weekend for school teacher Ben Coop, twice lowering his personal best for 5k.

In last Thursday’s Mid Cheshire 5k, he took 18th place in a classy field with 15mins 25secs.

He followed this on Monday by taking seventh in the high-quality Podium 5k race at Barrowford in 15:17 and with the right competition he could dip under 15 minutes.

Former Bury AC athlete Jerel Livingston made it a golden double at the weekend.

The talented young athlete, who now competes for Trafford, added the national under-15s' long jump title to the English Schools title he won earlier in the season.

Katie Geelan returned to winning ways in the Heaton Park parkrun, taking her total number of victories to 32 with a season’s best time of 20:21.

Paul Johnston was Bury’s first male finisher in 15th place in 18:51, only 20 seconds outside his personal best.
