RADCLIFFE AC’s Fiona Lynch was third woman and a fine 14th overall when she ran the tough 45-mile Grand Tour of Skiddaw on Saturday.

She described the ultra trail race in the Northern Lake District as hard work and completed it in 8hrs 50mins to take her third position and a trophy.

The event, which started and finished at Dalston, climbed up Skiddaw about halfway and had total climbing of more than 7,000 feet.

She said: "It was hard work but a really scenic route in a part of the Lake District I had not run in before.

"There were great checkpoints and lots of goodies for competitors.

"Most of the racing happened in the last 16 miles.”

Lisa Carter was also racing in the Lake District at the weekend in the challenging Derek Price Memorial Grisedale Horseshoe Fell Race and was rewarded with an outstanding 13-minute improvement on her time from last year.

She covered the 5,000 feet of climbing from Glenridding over the course’s nine miles in 3:28:00.

The improving runner had been one of 11 from the club who competed in the race last year.

Kate Holden and vet-60 Sheila Jones had reason to celebrate when they ran the Trafford 10k on Sunday when Holden had a personal-best time of 47:34 and Jones was second in her age category in 50:50.

The event, run from Partington Leisure Centre, had been postponed in March because of bad weather conditions.

Ian Hopkinson took to two wheels on Sunday with friends and colleagues and completed the Christie 100-Mile Bike Ride in just under eight hours, helping to raise money for a children's hospital ward.

The event started and finished at Wythenshawe Park and covered areas of Cheshire.

Radcliffe AC junior Olivia Whittaker took on her first 5k parkrun at Heaton Park on Saturday and clocked a fine 32:34.

Dad Chris, a member of Radcliffe, was on hand to see she was okay but he need not have worried, although he did later comment on her performance saying: “I think I may be in trouble in a few years.”
