TEAM manager Brianne Turner was delighted with the team spirit and commitment of the athletes and supporters at Bury AC’s final track and field meeting of 2018.

The official results have yet to be verified but overall the team performed well at the fourth and final Cheshire League fixture at Winton, near Eccles.

The standout performance from the seniors came from the ever-improving Josh Birmingham in the 1500m, where he dominated the field leading from gun to tape and that was after he had scored vital points for the club earlier in the day in the 3,000m.

There was an impressive new personal-best time for Connie Potts competing in the under-13 girls' shot competition, throwing a massive 7.60m – an improvement of 54cm on her previous best.

Anna Gisbourne, in her first year as an u13, produced a confident 4mins 30secs in her first outing over 1200m.

Coach Alison Dale was also impressed by Danielle Elephant, who cleared 1.10m in her debut in the u13 girls' high jump after only a handful of lessons.

The u13 girls' relay team of Enya Hartley, Connie Potts, Devonne Samuels and Millie Uprichard took second in an exciting and close race. Their time of 56.3 for the 4x00m overshadowed the boys' result.

Ben Coop made the long trip to Fort William to compete in the Ben Nevis race, finishing in 41st place in a time of 1hr 44mins 55secs for the very testing course with more than 4,400 feet of ascent.

This was more than two minutes faster than his 2017 time.

Byron Edwards took fourth place in the Golden Ball 10-mile race in Lancaster in a time of 64:07 during a weekend of intense training.

Brandon Quinton underlined his good form by running out as an easy winner in the Heaton Park parkrun on Saturday morning, the 15-year-old returning a new PB for the course of 16:53.

At the other end of the age spectrum Ed Hitchin, in the M70 age category, ran a season’s best of 23:41.

Next week sees the start of the road relay calendar with Bury entering a team in the North West Road Relay Championships to be held around the woodland trails of Delamere Forest.
