RADCLIFFE AC had a turnout of 28 runners for the Blackleach 4.8-Mile Multi-Terrain Race in Walkden on Sunday with good places for many and the men’s team prize for the club.

Neal Emmerson was first male 35 and fifth overall out of 190 runners with a time of 28mins 43secs, followed closely by Dave McGrath, second male 35 and in sixth place in 28:48.

Ian Warrington was eighth overall in 29:13 and, along with Chris Whittaker, in 12th place in 29:45, they took the team prize. Jenny Yates was first woman for the club and first vet-50, as well as fifth woman overall, in 33:39.

The event should have been five miles in the Blackleach Country Park but emergency excavation work there meant it had to be shortened.

The race was part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix in which the club takes part and they gained valuable points over other clubs, with two more races to come.

Lisa Donnelly joined more than 65,000 people in the Great North Run on Sunday for her first half marathon.

On the famous course from Newcastle to the coastline of South Shields she clocked 2:37:12 and came 29,218th.

She said: "I was so chuffed. I would have loved to have done 2hrs 30mins or under but it was so hot I found the last three miles hard."

Also taking on a half marathon was Caroline Mullineaux who ran on forest tracks rather than road when she competed in the Delamere Forest Half Marathon.

She was eighth vet 40 and 24th woman out of 56 in a time of 2:05:03.

Thirteen took to the fells to battle it out with several clubs for points in the Run The Moors Grand Prix when they ran the midweek Hades Hill Fell Race at Whitworth.

Ian Warrington came home 12th senior man and 22nd overall in 38:36 on the five-mile course with 1,181 feet of climbing. Second home for the club was John Wrigley in 33rd place overall in 40:45 and third was Craig Norman in 41:45 in 41st place.

The last fell race in the grand prix is the Lake District Langdale Horseshoe Race next month.

Scott Baxter tried a race with a difference when he took part in the inaugural Yorkshire Downhill Time Trial at the Havok Mountain Bike Park in Todmorden.

Each runner was given two attempts at the mile fell race downhill through pine trees and woodland and his best run was 10:14.

Stephen O’Hagan and his dad Edward ran the Salford 10k.

He clocked 49:00 and Edward ran 57:00.  

Caroline Malone faced driving wind and torrential rain when she took on the Fleetwood Sprint Triathlon on Sunday coming in with an overall time of 1:25:03 and getting herself a fine medal.

Meanwhile, many members joined the midweek Decathlon 5k run at Leverhulme Park.

In the popular parkruns there was family rivalry when Radcliffe’s Andy Haines ran with son Sam, aged nine and a member at Salford, clocking 28:29 at Worsley Woods.

At Heaton Park, junior member Olivia Whittaker ran with dad Chris to get a personal best time of 31:24 and also at Heaton Park, which had more than 600 runners, Nick Barnes clocked 25:05, Tammy Oluyori finished in 30:39, Bev Quinton ran 39:14 and Sarah Oxley clocked 55:32.

At Bolton, Paul Swyers clocked 22:29 and Mark Wolfenden 24:26, while at Burnley, Chris Paxton clocked 19:39 and Steve Parker, in his first 5k, finished in 39:34.
