JIM Cox has enjoyed a great season at Greenmount Golf Club and he rounded it off with a superb double success.

In the Bury and District Golf Association Seniors' Championship he played a dramatic final against reigning champion Graham Martin, from Harwood Golf Club, at the neutral venue of Rossendale.

It was a tight match all the way and went into extra time with five-handicapper Cox eventually taking the title on the 20th hole to take the coveted trophy back to his club.

Cox was also the club champion at Greenmount and he also won the Manchester and District Golf Alliance Seniors' gross championship at Cheadle with a fine 67 gross score.

On an interesting course with fast greens having their pins placed in very tricky positions, Cox was not the only player from Greenmount to enjoy success.

The Archie Preston Trophy for the best nett score was won by his club-mate Paul Dunne with a great return of 76-16=60 seeing him home from Ian Farthing (Malkins Bank) with 62 and Gordon Hamlett (Ashton-on-Mersey) who won a card play-off on 63 from Barry Meager (Rossendale).

The prizes were presented by John Sandford, a past captain of Cheadle who was thanked by all of the players and Alliance secretary Ian Hales for making this an excellent and friendly competition.
