RADCLIFFE AC were well represented when they took on the Northern Athletics Autumn Road relays at SportCity on Sunday.

With three women’s teams and a men’s team, they faced some top-class opposition from clubs throughout the north.

In the six stages in the men’s event, Neal Emmerson, Ian Warrington, Chris Whittaker, Craig Norman, Chris Paxton and Mike Kontowtt notched up a time of 2hrs 31mins 20secs, putting them 87th out of 127 teams.

The first women’s team were in 72nd position out of 97 and Sarah Turner, Kate Holden, Amanda Callan and Paula Abernethy had an overall time of 1:52:02.

In 88th place, Caroline Mullineaux, Katie Percival, Lisa Carter and Amanda Darbyshire’s overall time was 2:01:52 and in 95th position in 2:18:20 were Kathryn McPrince, Debi Warrington, Karen Doherty and Tracey Wroe.

There was some good running and it was a big step up from last year when just one ladies’ team was entered.

There was a course personal-best time for Rob Lister at the Belfast Half Marathon with 1:36:28 in the largest half marathon in Northern Ireland from Ormeau Park.

Dave McGath was 12th out of 43 when he took part in the Holcombe Mountain Duathlon on Sunday with an overall time of 2:13:21.

Steve Hamer was second vet-60 and had an overall time of 2:52:09.

The  tough event had two 7.4k runs over Holcombe moorland and a 27k challenging bike ride which included the Grane Road and the Lumb Carr Road climb.

Caroline Malone was pleased when she clocked 53:40 and enjoyed music on the way in the Blackpool Music Run 10k despite facing a brisk wind and in the Southport Seaside 10k, vet-60 Andy Wheeler also took in some fresh sea air as he clocked 59:15, putting him 789th out of 1,598 runners.

The weekend had been a double for him, having run the Rivington Terraced Gardens Fun 5k the day before in 45:57, an event designed to raise cash to restore the gardens.

Two others had travelled to the seaside to take on the Southport event and on the two-lap course starting and finishing in Princess Park, Lucy Dewhurst and Sarah Oxley stayed together, clocking 1:10:42 and 1:10:43 with Dewhurst supporting Oxley, who found it hard work as it was her first event since a fall from her bike which has left her with some nasty injuries.

In the parkruns, Nick Barnes clocked 23:14 at Heaton Park, closely followed by vet-60 Sheila Jones running 23:23. Tammy Oluyori ran 29:54.

Junior Olivia Whittaker had another PB with 31:10 and Tracey Wroe ran 40:32.
