RADCLIFFE AC’s 'yellow army' invaded the Swinton 5.25-Mile Road Race with Neal Emmerson winning the event in 30mins 5secs leading from start to finish.

The men also won the team prize and Jenny Yates took the first vet-50 prize and came 48th out of 161 runners in 36:43.

Twenty-eight runners took part and making up the winning men's team of three at the Sunday event were Ian Warrington, in third place, in 30:48 and Dave McGrath, in fifth, in 31:06.

Chris Whittaker was next home for the club in 32:46 with Chris Paxton close on his heels in 32:49.

The race was part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix which the club are doing well in, battling against several other clubs.

There is now just one more race to go in the fight for points.

Members helped mark running legend Ron Hill’s 80th birthday when they took part a special midweek 5k at Whitworth, Rochdale.

The Olympian was there to watch the event, named the Ron Hill 80th Birthday Cowm 5k Reservoir Race, and had his photograph taken with some of the club’s runners. A commemorative mug went to all  342 finishers.

Jenny Yates was first vet-50 again and 12th woman, running 21:26.

Sheila McNulty (V70) enjoyed good conditions when she took on the Lakeland Four Passes event on Saturday, covering the 19 miles and 5,300 feet of climbing in 5:36:00.

Starting from Borrowdale it went over Sty Head Pass, Black Sail, Scarth Gap and Honister Pass.

Andy Haines also took on a challenge in the Lake District, taking part in the ROC two-day Mountain Marathon in the Northern Fells, completing the first day but not the second after grim weather conditions.

Caroline Mullineaux faced wind, hail, rain and the cold in Scotland, combined with a tough course when she ran the Mamores Half Marathon.

But she was pleased with her time of 2:48:00.

The course climbed from Kinlochleven up through the Mamores and was undulating until the descent into Glen Nevis.

Sheila Jones (V60) travelled abroad to enjoy her latest parkrun when along with her sister Eileen and 10 regulars from the Heaton Park parkrun, she took a weekend break in Florence and in the Firenze parkrun was second woman, clocking 23:46.

At Bolton Mark Williams clocked 20:49.
