SHELTON Payne netted a hat-trick as Radcliffe left it late to beat Irlam 3-2 in the Manchester Premier Cup on Tuesday.

Payne's 93rd-minute winner from the spot along with another penalty and a brilliant solo effort was enough to see off Irlam whose goals came from Sam Bolton and Connor Martin early in the second half.

Radcliffe got off to a brilliant start to the game as on three minutes Payne was brought down in the box for a penalty.

He stepped up and calmly slotted home to put the away side ahead.

The away side found a lot of joy on the wings with both Tunde Owolabi and Raul Correia causing the Irlam defence a lot of problems but settled for a 1-0 lead at the break.

The second period got off to the worst possible start for Jon Macken's side.

On 47 minutes, full-back Bolton picked up the ball in his own half and weaved his way through the Boro midfield and then fired past Ollie Martin in goal.

It went from bad to worse for the away side on 49 minutes as Grogan brought down an Irlam attacker in the box to give away a penalty and Martin stroked it into the corner despite Martin getting his fingertips to it.

Macken's side were struggling to find a way back into the game, but Payne handed the away side a lifeline on 75 minutes as he latched onto a Rick Smith long ball, cut in from the wing and fired home via slight deflection.

In stoppage time, Liam Wood drove into the box in search of a winner only to be bundled over by an Irlam defender for a clear penalty.

Up stepped Payne once again to complete his hat-trick and his side's comeback.

Three days earlier, Radcliffe ended their losing streak at home after fighting back to earn a point at the Neuven Stadium against Colne in a 1-1 draw in Evo-Stik West.

Boro thought they had made the breakthrough in the 17th minute when Ben Wharton poked home an excellent Scott Metcalfe cross but it was ruled out for offside.

Colne did take the lead shortly after when the ball bounced across the face of goal before Richard Taylor pounced at the back post.

Taylor nearly got his second minutes later but he saw his headed effort cleared off the line.

Radcliffe were level shortly after half time when Owolabi produced some excellent footwork on the wing to beat his man before laying the ball off to Elliott Rokka whose curling effort bent away from the keeper and into the top corner.

Boro went close several times to a winner but had to settle for a share of the spoils.
