THAI boxers from the GFC Gym in Bury have been enjoying more success with two more titles added to their honours list.

Kellisha Dodds became a European champion, while Ella Thompstone won a first British title in Birmingham

Four fighters travelled to Birmingham and all put in fine displays.

Anthony Hamer took a points victory in a seesaw battle, while GFC's other European champion, Lewis George, was next up and proved too strong for his French opponent, stopping him in the fifth round.

Dodds had a close first three rounds but, despite fighting the seven-time French national champion, showed her class in edging the last two rounds, winning by unanimous decision and becoming the new European champion.

She joins her gym-mates Lewis Bentley, Mackenzie Roberts and George in winning European titles this year.

Thompstone had her eighth fight in 11 months, competing for her first British title and was too strong for her more experienced opponent with a unanimous points victory.

Before the Birmingham trip, Bentley and Thompstone, both students of St Gabriel’s High School in Bury, competed in Scotland.

There was initial disappointment as both their opponents came in overweight, but not wanting the long trip to be for nothing, they both decided to fight anyway.

Bentley showed all the skill and ability that has made him a two-time European champion in picking up a unanimous decision in a performance that once again earned rave reviews.

Thompstone was next up, and she dominated from the start, consistently changing styles throughout her fight to pick up another landslide points victory.

Paul Spinks, one of the country’s busiest referees stated on his social media: “I don’t know what GFC do with these kids, but every last one is amazing.”

It’s going to be a busy end to the year for GFC with three juniors competing in the unified world championships in Italy this month then nine fighters competing in Barnsley on November 18.
